Category Archives: Depending on God

Trevor picture       We have three dogs. They want to be in our presence all the time. Currently, it is 7 am and they are at the outside door and the instigator, our Terrier mix is barking to get in the house. The Beagle is whining and the old Rottweiler; she is just sitting at the back door looking forlorn. We do not want to be where they are, but they want to be where we are.

Sunday the pastor discussed us painting a picture of our lives “including” God in our picture. We paint a picture of righteousness, a picture of good things and adventures, including God. We want to include God, which is only smart. Nevertheless, it is our picture and we are “including” God. How about if we turn around the idea of who is “including” whom? How about we find out what God wants to paint and fit us into His picture?

Jeremiah 29:11 ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 12 ‘Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. 14I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD,…….

Proverbs 8:14Counsel is mine and sound wisdom;  I am understanding, power is mine. 15 “By me kings reign, And rulers decree justice. 16 “By me princes rule, and nobles, All who judge rightly. 17 “I love those who love me;  And those who diligently seek me will find me. 18 “Riches and honor are with me, Enduring wealth and righteousness. 19My fruit is better than gold, even pure gold, And my yield better than choicest silver. 20 “I walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice, 21To endow those who love me with wealth, That I may fill their treasuries.

Our dogs are smarter than we are. The dogs want to be in our picture.  They know instinctively to be in our picture.  We are the source of all that is good to them. We pet them. We feed them. We treat them nicely. We give them a good place to sleep, and boy, can they sleep! In addition, we clean up their messes. For our dogs, everything good is found near us. They know whose picture to be in and are satisfied!

Our dogs are pretty smart. We are their source!

So, we ought to let God do the painting and we fit into His picture.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

God first.

The Actual Value of Man

Looking at my outside, my flesh, I see nothing of value. What are we, but some flesh, some blood, a failed brain, a heart and a bunch of other inside parts? I see a flesh that is weak and a brain that is not in line with God’s brain.

We invent things, things for our own consumption and gratifications and for our own glory. On the other hand, we are involved in abortion to aggressively kill our kind, we have many wars to try to gain or satisfy wants and desires. Half of this country is divorcing to fulfill themselves. Hatred is rampant. Murder is a solution to satisfy our needs. Greed and self-satisfaction are on the loose.

On the other hand, we cover our degradation with high ideals, awards to everyone, philanthropy, charity calling it good works, self-righteousness, being “good.”

Even though our actual value is little, our actions are poor, and our self-righteousness is insufficient, God has loved mankind before the foundation of the world.

Now that is love. It can only be God’s love. It is a love that is always in man’s favor. It is love that never lessens but is always consistent and strong.

Romans 5:5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

So our value is found in God’s love for us. It is the value He places on us because of His love. It is His love that gives us our value. He can say He loves us with an everlasting love.

His love is expressed to us in Jesus. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

So ask Jesus for the fullness of God’s love to be in you.  Ask Jesus into your life and know the love of God.

Lies to You

A lie that is commonly told to us is “You have no value!”

You agree with that lie >>> Why am I even alive?   Why was I even alive?    I have no value!

We believe this lie from an early age.  We were, maybe abused as a kid. Or maybe just told: “You are worthless!”

So we ended up believing this about ourselves: “I have no worth, no value. I am just a useless piece of crap. Why was I born?”

THIS IS NOT THE TRUTH! This is a lie!

The Truth is – everyone has a value and that value starts with the FACT – GOD LOVES YOU!

Jesus, God’s first son, died in your place. He loves you. God only loves you. He completely loves you. He eternally loves you. He forever loves you!

God says that before you were born – He loved you.

We live in a crap world. Surrounded by crap situations and a lot of crap people. That makes it hard to hear from God.

Life with God’s help starts by asking Jesus into your life.

If you take the time to stop and think about the past, somewhere in there God had been talking to you, protecting you, screaming at you to get your attention. Saying turn to Me for life and help. It all starts with God through Jesus in your life.

Man has rejected God, not God rejecting man. So turn to God and He will be your ROCK.

Life with God only gets better as you go toward Him and seek Him. You definitely will find Him and help from Him. It is a road of having Faith in God for your help and insight.

You may not believe in God. You may mock God. You might hate God. That is O.K.

It does not change the fact, the fact! That GOD LOVES YOU!

God always has loved mankind and He especially, specifically loves you. God knew you before you were born and He knows the number of hairs on your head.

So stop hating yourself and stop hating God, who is the source of peace and safety.

So ask Jesus into your life, go after God and God will change your life for the better. Freedom and real Love is what God provides, promise!

Jesus is EVERYTHING not only the sum, but the fullness, the completeness, the EVERYTHING of God.  You can depend and trust always in Him.

  • Jesus is not a son of God. Jesus is THE Son of God –Matthew 16-13 “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?”he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
  • Jesus is not a way to God, a truth about God, nor a life to God. Jesus is THE way to God, Jesus is THE truth of God, and Jesus is THE Life in God – John 4:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
  • Jesus did not help make things, Jesus is THE maker of all things – John 1:3 “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”
  • Jesus does not help hold thing together, Jesus is THE holder of all things together. Colossians 1:17 “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
  • Jesus is not a name, Jesus is THE name – Philippians 2:9 “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,”
  • Jesus is not a king or lord. He is THE King, THE Lord – Philippians 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  • Jesus is not with all things. Jesus is BEFORE all things – Colossians 1:18 “And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
  • Jesus is not a cornerstone for the world. Jesus is THE Cornerstone for all things – Ephesians 2:20 “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”
  • Jesus is not a part of God. Jesus is God. – Colossians 1:19 “For God was pleased to have all his (God) fullness dwell in him (Jesus)20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
  • Jesus is not a son of God. Jesus is THE Son of God. – Matthew 3: 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.
  • Again, Jesus is not a son of God. Jesus is THE Son of God. – Hebrews 5:5 In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.”
  • Jesus is not a word about God. Jesus is THE WORD of GOD – Revelations 19: 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.
  • Jesus is not from the beginning and near the end. Jesus is before the beginning and He is past the end – Revelation 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
  • Jesus is not a way to take away sin from man. Jesus is THE Way to take away sin from man – John 1:29 “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God,who takes away the sin of the world!”

God’s Final Word is His Son

Colossians 1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Philippians 5:5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Hebrews 1:1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universeThe Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels spirits, and his servants lames of fire.” But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” 10 He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.  11 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. 12 You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”

So how can we have our dependency on anything or anyone other than Jesus?

  • Who is King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords – Revelation 19:16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
  • And He loves us and we are His brothers – Hebrew 2:11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

Unlimited God

We have a Limitless Father, Our Big brother is Unlimited and we are led by His Boundless Spirit.

Yet we and others put limits on ourselves.  Are we nuts or what?

With God all things are possible.

Luke 1:37  37 For nothing is impossible with God.  (NLT)

Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the Lord with all your heart    and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,    and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (ESV)

Philippians 4:13 13 I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me. (NKJV)

John 15: 5“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Let us change the focus and talk about God and His Son Jesus, and our Teacher-Guide-Comforter the Holy Spirit; who They are, what They do and what is Their relationship to us.

Our Trusting Dogs

Today as I was feeding a bagel to our three dogs, I got that they don’t have a care, they don’t fret about anything.  They have a nice comfortable setting and are fed adequately, their living conditions are good and they get lots of love.  This is because they are loved.  Their security is in their masters hands.  They don’t even think about being on their own.  They are our loved dogs, they trust us!!

Think how much more God loves us; those who have asked Jesus into their lives, and are His children.

John 3:16-21 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV)

Luke 12:22-28  “And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.  The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.  Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?  And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?  If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?”  (KJV)

Our dog’s trust is completely in their master’s hands and they relax and are comfortable in that.

God is First

There was a bumper sticker that said “God is my co-pilot”.  We ask God to help us in our ventures and we ask for His guidance in what we want to do for God.  And of course we will “give Him all the glory”

He is God and He is glorified by His works in us.  Neither we nor He is glorified by what we do for God.

We need God, God does not need us.  He is the potter we are the clay.

I was standing in the backyard one day watching the clouds form and move in the sky.  God explained to me that the clouds did not have a will.  They did not have any preconceived ideas of how to be shaped.  They followed without hesitation or resistance what God wanted to do with them.  It was totally His decision on what they looked like, their formation.

Yet nothing that man could make or even conceive was near equal to the glory of these clouds, their beauty, their splendor, their grandeur.

The clouds were glorious in themselves and God was glorified in what He had made.

God talked to Job about God and His glory and the significance of man.

“God said to Job; Job 38 “Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:  “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?  Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.  Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?” Job38: 1-4

Job 40 “The Lord said to Job:  “Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?
Let him who accuses God answer him!”   Then Job answered the Lord:“I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?    I put my hand over my mouth. I spoke once, but I have no answer— twice, but I will say no more.”  Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm:  “Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.  “Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?  Do you have an arm like God’s, and can your voice thunder like his?  10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.  11 Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at all who are proud and bring them low,  12 look at all who are proud and humble them, crush the wicked where they stand.  13 Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave.  14 Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you.  Job 40: 1-14

Job 42 “Then Job replied to the Lord:  “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.  You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’  Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.  “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’  My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen youTherefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”

Job 42: 1-6

Colossians 125 I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— 26the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. 27To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”  Colossians 1: 25-27

We are nothing, nothing, yet God through Christ has made in us everything.   It is Christ in us the hope of glory.  What can we do except know Him and know Him better.
